Thanks everyone. I had a great day with the family. My only birthday wish that did not come true is that it would stop snowing.

Don't feel to bad Roy. My girls are holding out as well. I have a pullet pen laying well and some lavender splits but that is about it.

A conditioning pens is where you keep your birds to keep there feathers in the best possible shape. A controlled enviroment. You dont have to worry about other chickens picking, fighting, or your bird rubbing against environmental objects to cause feather damage.
As far as the area to pen birds, it depends on if it is bantam or LF. I always try to give my birds the most possible room and I do go over board on that. You can also pen together a larger amount of birds than just a trio and try to do trap nesting. Than you have an idea and who is producing what as far as charteristics and how well each of your birds lay.

My mother in-law did some sweaters for me to wear at the shows and a jacket. I also had her make Julie a few shirts with her farm name on them. I will get some pictures of those. The pattern I have looks a lot like the male in the emblem/club seal

Thanks for posting that Terra I have five of the larger buff Orpington patches 3 1/2 inches . The smaller ones come in black, white, buff and are a little smaller at 3 inches. Both are bordered in black with a blue background. Patches are 5.00. I think maybe when I get low on these I might order some blue ones to, so we have all the standard colors. My mother in-law has an fancy embroidery machine and she was going to look into the cost of materials. She said if was resonable she would donate the embrodery less materials to the club.

I was shampooing my Cockerel for show on Sat and can't believe he managed to duck his complete head twice before i could get a good grip on him. When I dryed him and put him in a pen to sun I noticed he couldn't keep his balance. i think he got water in his ears or something. Took a few hours but he can walk without looking like a drunk chicken. i had never bathed one in a tub before. I usually bath in a shallow dishpan or two. Washing chickens wears me completely out. I almost swear off showing. They had mostly fluffed back up by this evening. I do love those birds though. I am leaving out about noon tomorrow with my friend Imogene. DH will man the Fort will I am gone. He is a good man. Good luck Julie, I cant wait for a update on how you did. Did you get Champ entered? Tell Imogene Hi, I sure miss her!
