Fantastic design. Do you have pans or plans for poop clean up?

I would thimk wood chips. Clean our pretty often. I like the using boards of pallets, you can get them every where. I think pine would be better than oak.

thank you both. I will try it and see how it goes. If they start breaking feathers we can always go back in & put boards in place of the wire on the sides & middle. We may even have enough pallet boards left to do it.

Well I didn't know which Variety to put this under since all are represented. Some young birds. The buffs are K 6 months and P is 5. The others are between five and six months. Getting nice and large

chicksooner- thank you. I don't have pans. I actually considered the pans like you put under a hot water heater but don't know if they would be big enough. I think I am going to go with a fairly heavy layer of shavings & poop scoop them. We put boards on the sides to hopefully hold in the shavings. I am hoping the roost in the corner helps isolate a lot of the poop that builds up at night.
bamachicken- thanks for sharing. They all look nice but I love the splash girl. I hope to get some splash next season.

Don-did you get your barrels done? I have everyone moved around for the winter and have empty barrels and was thinking about cutting some doors in them.

Oh dear. I was hoping you could tell me how you did it. Guess I will go to home depot and see if I can figure it out. I mailed my entry form in. I am excited to see how my blacks do. I entered a buff cockerel and 2 black pullets. I have progressed from 1 bird to 3 so making some progress.

Chick, my plans are to make the pen 4 ft long, 3 ft wide and 3 ft tall. Fix a hole to line up with door. I can also put a trio of bantams orps in for a brood pen. I like your idea alot better than my first pens. Glad you got some to take to Shawnee, you are not taling the buff girl?

No I know about her. I am really wanting to find out how my black pullets measure up. I am taking one of your buff cockerels to see how he does. I need more transport cages, conditioning pens, and a truck to haul everything around otherwise I would have signed her up too. I am a very needy person.

This little pullet was from an early summer broody hatch. She looks nice except that she has a drake feather in her tail. I am tempted to pull it and see how the replacement looks.

Mine did the same thing. I thought about putting a piece of strap matal inside across the cornes to help hold it straight. I need to get busy on my new pens like yours.

Hello there, just thought I'd poke my head in the buff forum and introduce myself. I'm a buff fan, though I am just getting started with the business of raising them. I've had a rough first year as I've been learning how to breed and hatch them, but this next year I am super excited to breed earlier and have more hatches! I just went to a show in Farmington, N.M. this weekend as well, and showed all five of my birds. My cock bird got reserve champion English, so I was pretty excited since it was my first real show. I'm not really good at taking pics yet, but I tried to take a couple snapshots with my phone. Here is my cock bird that won reserve English: Here is my good hen as well. My other is in better condition, but she is a bit smaller and narrower.
