A great job on the newsletter. Especially enjoyed the the pictures from the Australian club, but they did cause a problem at Diamond T. For over 25 years I have been working on Buffs, Blacks and Blues. But now my wife and I want to make Crele Orpingtons. Sounds like time for a couple more pens. Anyone have any ideas where to start?

Heres a breeding scheme for breeding crele. Replace Brown Leghorn with BBR and Barred rock with Cuckoo.

I made Crele Rosecombs, I used Crele Old English male over a BBRed Rosecomb female and got Crele females, just had a bad comb. Dr. Petty told me if I could find a Cuckoo Rosecomb and cross on BBRed Rosecomb that would be nicer. I found one and did both, then crossed thm. Getting the Rosecomb back nice was the deal. Don't know how Jons way will ever get the Crele look. I would think using BBRed Standard Old English on the Barred might work. I have found in alot of my chickens projects I have had some wrecks. Getting into orps will be another adventure.

The more I think about this, you should call Dr. Petty and get his ideas on this. That guys know alot about breeding and making new colors.

Thanks Jon, I'm going to see what I can come up with and give it a try. I just really liked the looks of that crele cock in the aussie pictures.

Don, this is the pattern to what you did when you crossed bbr rosecombs to the cuckoos.

I think Christina has some Cuckoos too. I got mine from Harry. He sent me some eggs last year. I hatched 3 cocks out. Kept one and used him. Still have him. I produced about 10 chicks. Not as many as I wished I would have. I have 3 fellow Orp breeders of Whites who I promised some too. But, I will make some more next season. Mine aren't as nice as Christina's. She has better Blacks to use in the project. But, they are Cuckoo Orps. One way I may have some luck making a Crele bird is using this Duckwing. I was told by Dan H IF I take her to one of my Cuckoos the result maybe very close to a Crele. Only one way to find out is to use her with a Cuckoo

Bill you would be able to make Silver Crele. As I remember reading on BYC I believe your correct. I will throw these Cuckoos under about every odd variety I have. I would also like to make a few more of these Silver Duckwings. I have 2 more little chicks I believe will be like them. Plus another usually mostly Brown pullet and cockerel with alot of Silver. I would like to see what they can make. I maybe able to make (DUN) Brown Silver Birchens. Next season will be a fun one.
