Hi All! Thought I would share a quick photo. I have been working on bantam Mille Fleur's for awhile now and seem to be moving in the right direction. Still have a way to go but couldn't be happier with results thus far.

Great, it's fun to work with project like that.
I started about 10 year ago to make Crele Rosecombs, I now have them fairly nice. Ready to start on another deal, I think I think it would be fun to make a choc orp without the high dollar blood. I would think we can make them with a little time.

It is more fun to make something from scratch. What were you using in your Crele project?

I had Crele Old English and BBRed Rosecombs, I bought a Cuckoo Rosecomb male. I crossed the BBRed Rosecomb over the Crele Old English, I also crossed the Cuckoo Rosecomb over the BBRed Rosecomb. After that I just crossed this and that and if it worked ok if not trash it. My comb was not very good. I talked with Dr. Petty and he told me to get a good combed black male and breed over the crele pullets. I thought this would be a wreck, but I got 1 crele chick out of about 15 chicks, the rest was black. I trashed those black and the Creles out of the black did have better combs. Had to watch for black feathers. It's was fun to play with. What other bantam breed has a choc color?

I have also been working on an all "American" chocolate for two years now. This pic I believe is of some F2's, who are currently grown and recently started to lay. Have a split black male that I am waiting to grow up a bit and will cross for F3's.

Nice project folks. Here is an interesting link for you Don. www.bantychicken.com/cgi-bin/OEGBCA/index.cgi?action=forum&board=genetics&op=display&num=2766&start=0I am going about making a "BROWN" bird using this approach. From scratch like you would do it Don. Each of these pics is a bird I will take to a Black eventually. A BYCer "Mrs Turbo" wrote me asking for some Blacks. Said they wanted to make Silver Duckwings. I think they wanted to make Chocs. After reading this link. I love the pics. Here are a few of what I am going to play with. I have ALOT of other cool looking birds. Like Cuckoos, Lemon Cuckoos, Mottleds, Exchequers, and ofcourse the reason I have some of these in these pics. BUSTOFF!! Here is one more site with alot of interesting info. Hope you all enjoy! www.edelras.nl/chickengenetics/pdf/Poultry_Genetics_Mutations1.pdf

Hey Kristina, here is that little mottled that I hatched. Still trying to figure out cockerel/pullet?? on the initial one but it has lost some of the mottling as has gotten older though retaining some. I am hoping as it goes thru the first molt I will see the mottling more expressed. I have also hatched several more mottles currently growing out, will be crossing them when of age and anxiously awaiting those results. Can you tell I am in love with my bantam orps!

Henthymes, do you have any pictures of older birds from your chocolate orpington project? I would love to see your progress on that project. I will get some pictures this afternoon. I have a several juvi's growing out and a typey but small F2 pullet that recently started laying. Waiting for the split cockerel to come of age to cross back to the typey pullet, both from the same hen but different roosters. This cross should give me more chocolates and much improved type.
