I got my first bantam orp egg today from this spring pullets. I got my first hatch in late Feb. I think. It's funny how quick a bantam will lay and a standard orp is 9 or 10 months. Hot again today, just went over to chicken ranch and it's 112. Didn't lose any yet today, it stays hot till real late. It's still 100 at 10pm. I don't like cold winters but this summer has been a hot one.

We have to deal with 30-35 below, which is no bargin, but I think I can handle that better than 112 above. How can man or beast survive those high temps?

It's been over 100 for over 40 days. Wed and Thur it's going to be the most we have seen. When they sat 110 in Okla. City, we wil be 115, just hope the wind is blowing. You can wet the ground and it helps.

Wow, your lucky Don! I have two pullets now 9 months old and only 1 has started laying within the last week. Never had them take this long and wouldn't you know it's the ones I have been patiently waiting to start. Argh......

I think those standard girls are in the egg union, they don't start to early. I got some standard buff eggs from Heather in like July and they hatched early August, I didn't get eggs till late March. They would sing and carry on and didn't lay. I thought they was eating the eggs. I put 2 eggs in the pen box and they didn't eat them. Hard to understand why a bantam will lay so much faster.
