Summer has hit western Oklahoma, last two days over 100, 94 today. Birds don't get much growing done in hot weather. I have hatched about 175 total birds, the way the baby chick started goes I might have a few more than I need. I hatched a few std buff orps and 6 Black Cochins stds. You never know, I might get into those new types, cochinstons or whatever they call them. I did hatch alot of white, black and blue orp bantams, the buffs was a wreck, I think there is 3 buff bantams. I also raise a few buff brahams and a few rosecomb bantams. We have a new grandbaby and I got her some dark cornish bantams. Something a little different. This fall I'm only going to keep my std buffs and my black bantams, and Miss Gracies cornish. I have retired and need to slow down the chicken deal a little. I do have some nice blue and white bantams, I'll show a few and be done with them. Julie, you need to let me know about the Black Cochins, they would like to come home with young family.

Don I love the way the cochins look but I don't have any. Like you I am trying to slow it down with the chickens. It is hot here. Been setting record heat records. 102 today. I am trying to grow out a few chicks. I had a late start to hatching due to no eggs in the fall. Never had that happen before. I do have some promising looking chicks if they can make it through the heat. I was spraying everything down with cool water this evening. it was still with now breeze for a while but now it the wind has picked up. We desparately need rain. We haven't had more than a sprinkle in nearly 6 weeks. Mine already look like cochingtons according to some Don so I will pass on the Cochins for sure. Now if you want to share your Dark Cornish bantams I might take you up on that. I never did get any dark cornish. I managed to get a pair of Red laced whites and I have hatched a few chicks before it got to hot. I have a few little pullets and we are going to eat the boys.
