Today I had a bull snake in my chick brooder, he had like 4 lumps, so I guess he had eaten 4 chicks. He was rapped around the water jar sleeping. I like to have never got that thing out. I did call him several names. I took the top off the brooder and got a square point shovel on him. I tried to get my pliers behind his head but that didn't work. I just grabed his back end and threw him on the floor and did the shovel trick on him. His days of eating chicks or eggs is over. This is a GQF metal brooder, I don't know how he could have gotten in it. Is there any old tricks you can use to keep these snakes out of chicken house. I hate snakes, and I know these snakes are good for eating mice and thing like that, but I don't need or want any. I have never had a snake problem in all my years raising chickens.

I believe some stores sell snake repellents, you could try spraying or spreading that around the outside of the chicken houses and pens. Just make sure its safe to use around them.

I hate snakes. Not much keeps them out when they are determined to get in. They can squeeze themselves through pretty tight holes. The problem for them is getting out after they have dined.
