Got my bator ready and pluged up. If all goes good, I'll get my eggs in Tuesday or Wed. I moved that thing 968 miles, pluged it up and it went to 99 deg and clicked off. Must be living right. I guess we are in for another winter blast, Wed morning 2 deg and 30 mph wind, up to 10 in of show.

Yuk, and it has been raining all day again here. My chickens are tired of muddy pens and just small dry areas. I don't envy you and your snow.
I plugged in my old Hovabator after a year and yes right to 100 on the dot. Put three eggs in for hatching. I don't think I am going to load the bator this week. I have only been getting 5to 8 eggs out of the last few doz I have set. Think I will wait a week or so. and start again. Maybe. ;D

I had one bator I never unplugged, then Harry sent me 30 eggs and I started up another of these foam bators and it went to 99. Day four for Harry's eggs. All is looking good. I did get one outta 2 to hatch last Monday. That little guy was bitching when a free ranging White pulled the plug on the LiL guys lite. I could hear him from outside. So he is back now fully lit and happy. I should have a few more of his buddies coming out in a day or so. Most likely on the 10th. Then he can be a big shot in his brooder box. lol

I have a sportsman also. I guess it's 25 years old, I bought it new and it has never had a major breakdown. I have had to replace the wafers a time or two.

I have a brinsea Octogon 40, and an ova easy 190. I also have sportsman I use. I hate hatching in the cabinets, just gets to messy. The small ones are easy to clean and most of the batches I hatch, I space out so I hatch no more than 100 at a time.

Someday when I think of being more professional I will invest in a fancy cab bator. For now it is my 4 foam bators. I know I will have to make that jump here real soon now that I have 4 standard varieties and who knows what else I am up to. Alot of hatching. For sure next fall I am taking a break from hatching. I HOPE!

Any particular model of the LG or are they all the same? I am not familiar with the LG

I think they are all the same. You can add the fan and that makes it work so much better. I used those Little Giants for several years with great hatches. Like Bill, I just got to needing a bigger unit that done it better. Christina, I place a cardboard in the bottom, to catch all the shell and droppings.

I just took 38 chicks out of the hatcher tonight, mostly orps. We are up to nearly 70 chicks so far. This is as good as I have ever done this early, especially as we had 25 below zero when I was bringing these eggs up to the house. I hope everyone else is having good luck.

Okay I definitely need a bigger bator. I had collected about 6 or 7 eggs 3 days ago under my staircase in the basement. I have been meaning to clear out a juvie pen for these 7 pullets and one hen with two 9 1/2 month old cockerels. Now I know they were mad at me. They had tore up an old comforter which was on a folding table in the basement and laid there. On the table. For three days. I wondered where their new place was. Duh!! Right infront of me. Look at how many they laid in 3 days. And one more had rolled off onto the floor. lololol I guess I do not have a vigor problem.
