On another forum someone asked who might have a particular breed of goose/goslings/eggs available from good lines. He indicated he was in southern CA, as I am, and my two geese, from very good lines, are laying. He came over yesterday (from the next town over - small world on the internet!), and picked up some goose eggs.
Then he glanced into the adjoining chicken yard, and had to get closer to take a better look. With eyes big as saucers he pointed out two or three black hens he said would win at poultry shows! He happens to be an APA judge! He will be back next week for hatching eggs.
The credit goes to Imogene Segars and Julie Bachelor. Another small world moment - I bought BBS hatching eggs from Imogene, and a woman nearby (Patty Carson - met through the internet!) bought eggs or chicks from Julie. I traded three young roosters to Patty and she returned six pullets to me from one of the matings. The hens the judge liked were from Julie's black hens and Imogene's blue cockbird!
Final note to a long story - I have never been to a poultry show, but appreciate good quality. The birds are my hobby in retirement and give me a great deal of pleasure. Thank you Imogene and Julie!

If you haven't met Imogene and Julie you have missed a real pair. I met them at the orp national when it was at the Ohio National. Imogene will keep you laughing. Two very fine southern ladies. Imogene is also a mule lady.

Don, I have only had limited email correspondence with the "fine southern ladies", but their warmth came through. I think I read almost everything Julie writes on the forums where we are both members, and definately appreciate the pictures she posts of her birds!
