I have LF Lavenders and FBC Marans of the same age (9 months). The Lavenders' eggs are medium to large, while those of the FBCM's are large to extra large. Am I wrong to think the size of the O's eggs should rival the FBCM's? Is it likely the LO's eggs will catch up in size as they mature, or is it more likely the size of the eggs being laid by my LO's is a fault I'll need to work on? I'm ready to incubate, and wondering if the pullet eggs I'll be using are smaller than I should hope for. I know it is better to hatch eggs from more mature hens, but the pullets are all I have right now.

I don't beleive that a hen egg chick will be larger that a smaller pullet egg chick when they get grown. I was told that once and I thought it sounded good. I had some pullets eggs hatch at the same hatch as some hen eggs. Yes the hen eggs chicks was larger at birth at 5 months you couldn't tell the pullet egg cicks from the hen chicks. Same breed.

As a general rule, which breed produces larger eggs, Orpingtons or Marans?

I agree with Don on the hatching and I would say the Maran might lay slightly larger on Average
