Jim Sallee won best over all Orpington with a very nice buff cock bird. He went on the win reserve LF, I think he should of gone higher! My pictures dont do him justice. I am waiting on the picture from the poultry press. I will post it when I get it from Jennifer Frank. Josh Simon won with a buff bantam cock bird. There were 27 birds. I wish we had more. It is still a very fun show!

Renie, I agree with you. But, my point is that if you end up with a, for instance, 12 lb. rooster, then I think you have reached Large Fowl (7/8 or greater) and the dwarfing and/or bantam gene has been removed. This is all really over my head. Anyone reading please correct me if I am wrong. I want to understand this. I hope that I am not breaking any forum rules by posting the following link. I think that it is very pertinent to the current discussion. www.the-coop.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=93278These are UK breeders discussing how to create LF Chocolates from Bantams. Oh, I see what you are saying ;D My fault for not reading more correctly. Well with my 7/8 LF I still think I do have a dwarfing gene in there as I had a few from the hatch that did not grow much compared to their hatch mates. Culled them out and I am only keeping the largest split males and moving on.

I think 7/8% is... lacking 1/8% or being 88% English 88% LF ;D

My show pen of blacks, I am getting a trickle of eggs. I have a few LF whites in the incubator and have hatched several 7/8 LF Chocolates!! Christina, I am getting some 7/8 LF Chocolates also. I have my F2 Chocolate roosters that I got from you over Black English hens. This should yield 50% black split roosters and 50% chocolate hens. It has been more like 70/30 for me. So far I have 6 black split cockerels and 2 chocolate pullets, assuming that the sex-link is correct. I also have my first 100% English Red egg developing. YEAH. My rooster came from Marc and my hen is greenfire line. I set 4 more eggs a couple of days ago. Here's a recent pic. The rooster is still packing on the feathers. They would be 3/4 LF chocolates than, breed to LF blacks again and you would get 7/8ths.

You can breed a white male to buff females and only keep the silver based females.

Dark legged whites you can use with a white that carries cuckoo. Since you are getting a Cuckoo from Bill which should be split white he will be just the trick you needed. This is what I have been told by a real expert in Orpingtons. Hey and I thought I was the expert ;D No, Harry is right on!

My little white splash White Orpingtons should have white legs. What is she out of? If you get a nice white legged male you can clear up the blue in the legs.

I would use a male. The female offspring should have a slight cast to their legs but once you breed back to the golden laced male you will get males and females with white legs.

You will get black with leakage on the males. I would go with your plan of breeding the daughters back they will carry the lacing gene. You should get a percentage of laced offspring from them.
As far as the buff. The chicks would be a mixed looking color. Breed the daughters back to your golden laced male and keep the laced offspring from the cross.
