gff.cochinsrule.com/coops.htmThis is the link Vern was referring to, at Golden Feather Farms. I am stupid. I have never shown a bird. What is a "conditioning" pen? Another dumb question, I am sure.... what size of an area do you use for your breeders, such as just a trio or a quad? Do people pen breeders in small areas or cages? I just don't get it.

A conditioning pens is where you keep your birds to keep there feathers in the best possible shape. A controlled enviroment. You dont have to worry about other chickens picking, fighting, or your bird rubbing against environmental objects to cause feather damage.
As far as the area to pen birds, it depends on if it is bantam or LF. I always try to give my birds the most possible room and I do go over board on that. You can also pen together a larger amount of birds than just a trio and try to do trap nesting. Than you have an idea and who is producing what as far as charteristics and how well each of your birds lay.

Kathy love the coops and the birds... We have Silkies and polish as well as the Orps... Jon I have a nice barn/garage near the house. Two story with the steps on the back wall. I want to "fence" in that space under the steps for indoor area and then have the runs out the back. Morning sun and afternoon shade. Cement floor tho. Easy clean up I guess with shavings. In doors would be safe for the nice birds.
