He is a beaut! I know how hard it is to get a good pic. I am sure he is even more impressive in person, or in chicken, since that is what he is. I think this thread is a great idea for us novices. I am new to Orpingtons, and still am floundering with too many cockerels, and with others input, I MAYBE able to thin down to a normal level (what ever that is?) of cockerels in a given variety. We need to encourage ALL who may not have the know how of a Christina or a Don to guide us down the right road.

Bill, I'm looking for a smooth interstate, the road I'm on now is not as smooth as it needs to be.

Don you forgot more then many will ever know. IF we only could clone you and your knowledge for future generations to tap into. I am learning more by my mistakes. And that is a tuff way to go. That is why I like this thread. We newbies will waste less time and money by listening to folks like yourself.

Bill, I don't know very much. I need to learn alot. I have made so many dumb mistakes. I just didn't have anyone to tell me. My biggest was culling all my smuttie females. My buffs got light overnight it seemed like.

Take him to a couple of my older hens who have good even color and some size. I hope he passes on his richer Buff color with those hens size and I will be happy to share any extras.

Christina, Long back on males is a good thing. Jeff Halbach taught me that years ago. You need that in the breeding pen. Looks like he has a nice tail.
More chest is good. Big wide head is important & the larger body the better.

Feel free to brutally evaluate my Serpico. He is near or around 6 months old right at 9 lbs.
