I have too many dogs. One of my old GSD line just passed on my B-Day the other nite. He was a true character. He loved to wedge his head in between my wife and I when we hugged. IF I let him he would ram his huge head between my legs from behind to where it stuck out in front with a big goofy grin. Just thought I would share this pic of Yertle in one of those goofy moments. This was taken when he was a little pup. I was on my couch and seen his tail wagging. I had to reach around to take this pic to see what he was up too. A once in a lifetime pic from a once in a lifetime dog. You can see my leg while he and Larri the cat (she is a girl) were under the coffee table. I had no idea this was what he was doing. I loved this fella as I am sure anyone who has a dog love's theirs.

so sorry about your dog bill...hard to loose a good freind like that.. Thank you for the kind thoughts. Everything & everyone, we all come from the same star dust that makes up this great world we live in. I have been very lucky to have shared this moment in time with some wonderful people and wonderful friends like this boy. I have 2 of his sons. Moose is as goofy as Yert. You can see the same look that Yertle had in his face. Another true character. I feel blessed. thank you aveca

your welcome..im glad you have 2 of his sons..at least that can ease the pain of the loss.. I have been blessed when it comes to dogs. 7 years ago I joined the OGINDY Schutzhund Club where Yertle changed the thinking of one of our Nations best German Shepard Dog breeders mind on the worthiness of AKC line bred American GSD's. The members of this club never thought much of AKC GSD's. They all thought AKC dogs watered dog the drive of these great dogs. After they helped me train Yertle, they seen a GSD from American lines, take grips, bark and hold, and do every part of the protection part of Schutzhund training as their best Import European line GSD's. Mike Diehl was the head trainer. He loved Yert. Yert and I always brought smiles to their faces. He will be missed. I guess karma has a way of repaying those you have lost. The other nite, my European line GSD female's breeder, Jeff Lawless contacted me on Facebook wanting to know IF my Frisbie (the Import bloodline GSD) who is now 7 yrs old was still intact to be bred. Jeff sold her to me for a mere $400. Her brothers and sister sold for $1500. Jeff lost her two brothers, and really wants to replace them with some from the same breeding that made Frisbie. Hard to say no to a guy like Jeff. He is a strait up gentlemen who loves GSD's and loves Schutzhund. So, ofcourse I had to say yes. But, I can not replace the hole in my heart that Yertle filled. So, who knows, come fall, I will let Jeff find a quality Import GSD male to use with her to help out Jeff. I told Jeff that Fris throws her own likeness. This goofy Moose did get a hold of her 4 years ago and Frisbie had just one pup. He is Tanner. Grandson of Yertle. Yertle was from Jim Herald's GSD line of old school flatback GSD's. Frisbie is from today stacked back, that is where their rear end slop dramatically to the ground. I am an old school type of guy. But, hard not to like Tanner. Thank you again Aveca, I know you love your animals like I love mine. Thank you you for the kinds thoughts

I too am sorry for your loss. I know I refer to mine as my four legged kids. Its been almost 3 years since we lost our Casey. She was a 12 year old GSD mix we adopted as a pup. She is still dearly missed.

She is still dearly missed. I think of mine as unique little people. They each have their own personalities. I am not biased of purebred over mixed bred. As you can tell in the way I breed my Orps. I talked to Don today. He had the nicest words to say about you chicklet. We both wish that all people were like you and your hubby. We are very happy to have you as a member. Anytime you ever need anything just let us know and I am sure we will help. Thank you.

You & Don are making me blush. My hubby, David, has been wonderful and my son, Josh, even helped with the last coop we built. I am hoping to make some progress with my Orps and have something decent to show in my bbs come this year or next.
Thanks for welcoming us to the club & if I ever have any birds you would want any of just let me know.

That sounds fantastic. The whole point of this club, our forum is to get people involved with poultry. The fun is how you learn to make a better bird. Here in the USA it has been decades of lack of effort by clubs and folks wanting to make our remaining breeds better and more to the standard that we here in this country took for granted a 100 years ago. I have a couple of really knowledgeable books that of very nice and knowledgeable fellow from upstate NY, a Dan Hanour let me have, well I paid several hundred dollars, to learn what those great breeders from 100 years ago had learned and shared. One book is the Hubbarb's Poultry Secrets. He was the care taker of Barnum's Orp flock. Yes the same Circus guy we all know about. The other book is the Reliable Poultry Journal from 1911. Both have tips, in breeding raising and just poultry in general. Dan is a true asset to our hobby. Another of the BYCers who has just stopped bothering to post over there. Well, here we can learn from today's best breeders. We, have a number of them here in our Club who enjoy helping out the new folks who seem to have a new born passion for our breed and hobby. I will be looking forward to see how well your new flock works out. Keep posting pics. FYI for those out here who are our guests. Please feel free to join our UOC. For $15 you get a lot more then just the right to post here. You get newsletters, a list of our breeders and make lifetime friends like Littlechicklet is experiencing. I see the other nite at one minute had 111 guests visiting. This is what is now encouraging me to continue to post. You just do not see the quality posts on the other site like you see here. Nor, do they encourage those who wish to share their knowledge over there. Too bad for them, but good to have this forum for those who visit to hopefully learn and appreciate great birds like our member have. Have fun and stay cool Littlechicklet!
