My show pen of blacks, I am getting a trickle of eggs. I have a few LF whites in the incubator and have hatched several 7/8 LF Chocolates!! Christina, I am getting some 7/8 LF Chocolates also. I have my F2 Chocolate roosters that I got from you over Black English hens. This should yield 50% black split roosters and 50% chocolate hens. It has been more like 70/30 for me. So far I have 6 black split cockerels and 2 chocolate pullets, assuming that the sex-link is correct. I also have my first 100% English Red egg developing. YEAH. My rooster came from Marc and my hen is greenfire line. I set 4 more eggs a couple of days ago. Here's a recent pic. The rooster is still packing on the feathers.

Julie, send her a PM telling her how to post pics. I talked to her on the phone and she said she was having trouble doing the pics.

How far off is a 7/8 LF to a pure LF. Those guys look very nice.

Don, I have to assume that Large Fowl is dependent on what one expects it to be. Is it 7/8, 15/16, 31/32, 63/64, 127/128, etc.? Thanks for the compliment on the Reds. I am assuming that you meant that for me.

I think 7/8% is... lacking 1/8% or being 88% English

Renie, I agree with you. But, my point is that if you end up with a, for instance, 12 lb. rooster, then I think you have reached Large Fowl (7/8 or greater) and the dwarfing and/or bantam gene has been removed. This is all really over my head. Anyone reading please correct me if I am wrong. I want to understand this. I hope that I am not breaking any forum rules by posting the following link. I think that it is very pertinent to the current discussion. www.the-coop.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=93278These are UK breeders discussing how to create LF Chocolates from Bantams.

They would be 3/4 LF chocolates than, breed to LF blacks again and you would get 7/8ths.

When I asked about 7/8 to pure LF, I meant size wise. Sorry, I wasn't very clear.

Oh, I see what you are saying ;D My fault for not reading more correctly. Well with my 7/8 LF I still think I do have a dwarfing gene in there as I had a few from the hatch that did not grow much compared to their hatch mates. Culled them out and I am only keeping the largest split males and moving on.
