I was reading on another board about wormers. I use Ivomec pouron and also Valbenzen. The Valbenzen I drench or put down there throat. I have never used Safeguard Goat wormer, has anyone used this? I know it's good to switch your wormers around and thought about trying this Safeguard stuff.

I'm a little shy about using Safeguard Goat wormer ( Safe-Guard® and Panacur® and Fenbendazole). Because I've been told if your bird is not fully feathered or going through a molt, that safe guard could cause feather deformity. Although it is rated as a good broad spectrum wormer. We have used it before. I've never tried Valbenzen, but I understand this to be a very good exceptional wormer. How much do you give your birds dosage wise? We have been using Levamisole Hydrochloride (Prohibit™ Soluble Drench)

I have read on some English threads that some use Fenbendazole because it is such a good broad spectrum wormer. I have used Ivermectin. I dont worm mine as often as most folks

On the Valbenzen I give the big guys 1/2 cc and bantams 1/4 cc. I used this stuff on young lambs and it never messed them up. Some wormer made them sick or it would get them off feed for a day or two. I just thought of having another wormer to go to. I like to switch it around. I have heard when you use the same wormer some times the worms will get imuned to it

I have seen that there are breeders who use moxidectin (cydectin or vetdectin) to worm their chickens. Has anyone on this forum tried moxidectin?

We have been using Levamisole since we ran across a few cases of Gape worm. So far it kicks those strangling Gape worms.

When ever we see a chicken stretching out its neck and gasping for breath (gaping) and some will show a blue comb. We suspect gape worm, and treat with Levamisole. Usually within 12-24 hours they are cured. If they don't show improvement then we suspect respiratory illness. So far every chicken we've seen who stretches his neck upward to the limit, gasping for air has been that nasty deadly gape worm. also their red combs will start turning blue.

I have used wazine. 17 , I have used goat wormer also 0.1 Cc per lg. Chicken..or 1 tblsp per gall 3 days refreashing dailey.accident gave the seabright hen same dosage with no I'll effects.it is very effective against gapeworm. Tapeworm.. I rotate as you should..I have so far not seen any kind of adverse. Affects.. except birds tend to gain more weight as they are clean of parasites.. so far I am happy with it. It is not approved for poultry..but I have had no problems. I like Julie do not stick to a stringent routine..in spring I will use wazine again.
Northern red mite
Treatment
Pyrethroids, organophosphates, carbamates, citrus extracts, vegetable oil and mineral-based products (both liquid sand dusts) have been used to control red mites in the environment. For northern fowl mite it is essential to apply approved insecticides to the affected birds.

I wonder if you could use borates to treat a barn for red mite ?..they would probably be the tamest treatment but effective..we have log cabin treatments like a glycerine borate wash that gets mopped right on the boards and it penetrates straight to the center of the wood ..It can be sprayed on too..Every spring when the birds are spending longer time outside, I go in the morning, strip the barn floor of old sawdust lg ..sweep the walls then with a pump sprayer and a mask ..spray all of the woodwork..those red mite are a scourge..so far they havnt come back ..I use a Pyrethroid spray so I can get in any cracks ...

I have seen that there are breeders who use moxidectin (cydectin or vetdectin) to worm their chickens. Has anyone on this forum tried moxidectin? Gayle, We have been using this product on the advice of some very serious pigeon breeders as well as those who keep various exotic pheasants and waterfowl. Some of the exotics and wildfowl are extremely sensitive to worm loads of any amount or sort so those people don't fool around. What they use has got to work. We have been happy with the ease of using this product as well as the impression that we haven't had any problems with any kind of worm load. We are not able to have cost effective fecals done to be sure so all we have to go on is the birds rude good health and overall results. Margin of safety is supposed to be huge as well so that over dosing should not be an issue. Dissolve 1 tube Quest horse wormer paste (not Quest Plus) into two litres of very warm water. This is your stock solution. I tablespoon of stock solution per gallon of water. This is their drinking water for at least a large part of the day. We have never seen a bird act as though they knew anything was added or refuse to drink. If two litres of stock is more than is needed the graduated dispensor of paste type wormer makes it possible to make far less stock. Any unused stock will keep in the frig for several days though we have never done that. Unused wormer still in the tube will keep until the expiration date on the box it comes in.
