We have had a very hot week in western Oklahoma. Last Sunday it started out 106 and Tuesday it was 110, the rest of the days like 107 or 8. We cooled a little today, only 100. I have only lost 2 birds, they was bantam cornish. I wet down around the pens after lunch and again in middle of afternoon and the wind help alot. It's always windy in western Oklahoma. Standard orps just don't like the hot weather. Lucky I haven't lost some of them.

I lost a hen yesterday too. It is 100 here and the heat index is 110 oI am spraying down the pens too. Have fans on one pen. I let one group out to get under the house outside since it is cooler there.
Praying for a little let up. Mine do fine if the weather doesn't get over 95

You are right we have had some hot days I know that one day it was 106+ degrees. then we had a couple of days that was between 102 and 104 degrees. Today it is suppose to only get up to 97 degrees that will feel cool compared to the previous days. I noticed it is suppose to get up around 103 and 104 July 4th.

So much for the 97 degrees. it was showing 110 degrees outside. Now the temp looks like it will start dropping with approaching thunderstorms.

We had a thuderstorm about midnight last nite and it cooled it down considerably. We are only at 95 today which seems much cooler. The birds can handle that okay. I have still let some out this afternoon. Yesterday I had a big German Shepard running the back fence and this morning he was by our pool. I have no clue who he belongs to. Always make me not want to leave home. I wouldn't let them out his morning so they had to stay in until after 4 today when I got home

Last year we had something like 60 days over 100 and I didn't lose a bird. This year I lost two hens the first day it hit 100. Stinks!

One year I had this crazy hen who meant she was going to set on some eggs. It was so hot and when she tryed getting off the nest she was wobbling when she tryed to walk. We put her in a tub of cold water and she got okay and made it. If you can catch them in time when you see them in trouble and put them in cold water you might be able to save them. I hate losing my girls. We are not supposed to be a 100 again this week and coooling down to mid seventies at nite. If they can make it in Australia they should be able to make it here.

Wow is it hot today. Last time I looked it was 112+ no telling what the heat index is. Now they claim it will start cooling down. I bet our chickens can't wait for it to cool down.

112 is hot for your area. Is the corn burned up? The way it looks our chicken feed will go out of sight.

Yes 112 is to hot for our area. It is suppose to rain tonight. It looks like approaching thunderstorms. We need the rain and a cooling period. If I heard correctly they had temps of 108 in Wisconsin. Did I hear correctly???

That is not good news at all. I hope somebody makes some good corn crops so we can afford to feed our chickens. BTW Galye I had two chocolates hatch under the little choco momas. I am not trying to hatch any chicks.

I have learned a little about hot weather and birds. Last year I lost alot of my std buffs due to the 70 some days of over 100. This year when it is 100 or over I cut the feed in half and feed in the evening before roosting time. I have only lost 2 big guys this year. I had a guy tell be this from out west where it gets hot all the time. I have always filled my feeder every morning and tried to keep them full. I do know they aren't going to grow much when it's real hot.

We need rain bad. Our lawns, pasture, hay fields, etc are thirsty. Right now they are brown and crispy. The corn fields are really thirsty.
