I was wanting feedback regarding getting splash accepted by the APA. I have shown my splash and was curious as to who else has been? Many times I will get a very typey splash hen and hate the fact she can not go higher than best AOV. I have bred them for over 5 years now and was wondering who is actively working or showing them? We can use the color description for the old English game bantams if and when we ever have a qualifying meet. I think there will be enough people for the large fowl, but what about you folks with the bantams?

I don't know about the red splash? Hopefully, we can get splash recognized than move on to other colors.

Hopefully I will be getting a few splash bantams out next year, unless I can find a blue or splash male this year.

She is starting to look like it two. All eggs are fertile. Feran is doing his job. I can still show her if you like. Bloomington Show is on April 14th

Christina I think we need to make sure we have enough people working on this color and then go for it at the same time we try to get the LF Chocs into the APA. Here is a picture of some young splash I am growing out now. We need to have something written on color as it varies. I think we need to allow for the variation in color.

We should do LF and Bantam Chocs and Splash all at the same time.... then again that could be getting difficult.

The problem is with the LF Chocolates or even the bantams you have to breed them for 5 years. I know enough LF splash breeders to get them into the standard. I will type up the OEGB splash discription for color, when I get a minute. I have been very busy with things on the farm and personal buisness lately.

Thanks Tricia, I need to find out from Pat Horstman about how many birds we must show at each show. I heard a rumor it is several but the judge was not sure exactly how many. Will keep you all updated.

I don't have a SOP, but do have a splash cockeral with odd - to me - coloring. He has blond/gold/buff highlights on his neck and back. Is that additional color appropriate for splashes of other breeds?

Here is the standards for the silkies, there most likely will be a similar standard for orpingtons in the Plumage color. Blond, gold, and red colors in the plumage will most likely be a disqualification. This is usually refered to as rust. This is a problem which is found in splash birds. Most of the blue blacks orpingtons carry sex-linked gold/red and some have mahogany genetics. Need to use blue/blacks orpingtons which have the reds toned down. It looks like some of the English lines here in the US have cleaner splash. Have they been bred up with Sex- linked silver? ?

According to some breeders to obtain a good splash bird you want to use silver based Black Orpingtons.
If any of you guys have the remedy to slow down rust in splashs from red/gold based blacks I am all ears!!!!!
Of course most people will be hinting breed Silver S ( Dominant sex-linked Silver) into your birds.

Thank you, Gayle! After seeing photos of Christina's and Julie's splashes, I figured his coloring was off.
