Nice female, you might think about a black male also.

Thanks Don. I would love to have a Black roo to put with her, my space is a bit limited though.

This is another way to use her for making some Blacks. Go to an APA show that Christina or someone who has a nice Black cock will be showing at, ask them IF they would AI their Black male then AI her. You will then get 20 or so days of fertile eggs. IF she is like my Black Bamma hens she should give you every bit of 10 to 12 eggs in that 20 day timeline. Then incubate them and you will have some more Blacks. Just a thought. Not sure IF Christina or anyone who has a nice black is into the idea. But that way you need not have to get a Black cock.

That's a good idea Bill. None of my girls are giving me any eggs yet, the daylight hours just are too short still. I'm hoping in a month or so they will start producing again.

You may also find someone who would let their Black cock just do it the ole fashion way. The first year I had Christina's birds I let Russ Milkey bring over 2 Black hens to be bred by the cock I got from her. And the offpsring from that breeding produced this year's Crossroads BV Black. Sometimes genes hook up well sometimes they do not. The only risk there is giving or getting something that your birds have not been exposed too.

I don't think there is anyone close to me with English birds... or even an Orpington breeding program, American or UK. I think AI or hatching a Black cockerel this year would be my best bet. Julie has a lovely Blue boy that I've been eyeing getting some eggs from the girls he's with for awhile. Maybe I'll be lucky and get a Black cockerel from that pen...

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I will be AIing several males. I have 2 who seem to be more interested in food then breeding So they will be AI'd ALOT this coming season. BOSS HOGG is one of them. He has alot I do not like. But he is a wide boy. So I definitely can find time to use him in my plans.

I could tell she had some of my bloodline in her!

Jeremy hopefully that will change. I remember being the only Orpington breeder in Washington and know I have a bunch of Orpington buddy's. You jsut have to change them to the dark side lol. Can't wait to finally meet you at Stockton!

Christina, well I've got A LOT of cockerels growing out- probably more than I will be able to sell, so maybe some of my chicken friends won't mind being gifted an Orp boy, or 2. LOL!
I'm very very excited about Stockton this weekend and very excited to meet you! Do you know if anyone else from the UOC will be attending the show?

Jeremy, she is really nice...I hope you get more black orpS..you are doing a really good job with your birds.. you don't need to show, your keeping important lines going and taking the time to learn from the people in here..you will have a bright future as a breeder of these great birds...some of us like to show and kind of have a difficult time finding any stock..and we for the most part we stick to the colors in sop...we,ll do the showing for you...
I think what you said in another forum about not getting carried away in the colors right now is a smart move...I will go out to show with an AOV if its really exceptional..but that's pretty rare..so always looking for good old fashion blacks and whites.even blues. And I sure don't like bug in people, I usually ask once and won't bother someone 2wice. Looking forward to see what you have to offer.getting some whites with correct leg color pretty soon.
