Keep those peppered up tail feathers females, that will help a lot.

I had a buff cock bird like that. I just cut the waddles off and put him on antibiotics. He was a good bird and I didn't want to lose him. They get bad and infected if you don't do something with them.

Air drying is good if the weather will let you. If not I use a livestock blow drier, I just use half the power. They will dry alot faster than a small hair drier. On buffs if you have them in a clean pen, sometime I just spot wash. I think it's better to wash 2 or 3 days before to let the feather back in placed. Just my thoughts.

Big is always better. I think some of the bigger buffs I have seen is US was Triple T, Doug Akers, and Fred Farthing (which was Terry Britts line). I know you have to hatch very early and get alot of growth before hot weather. Another think is what people use to weigh there birds, theres a breeder over east that said there buff male weighted 17 lbs. I would have to see it to beleive it. There is Alan Armall (don't think I spelled his last name right) in PA and also Bill Bacon in PA that has big buffs. I know Alan got a English male from Heirloom to add new blood. He said his buffs was bigger that the new English birds. My buffs are fairly big but not great on size. I feed baby chick starter year round, thats all my chickens get. It's 18% protein and that should do it. I tried feeding some gamebird starter ones and I didn't think they did as will. There is alot of talk about birds being to big, until the judges start DQ for overweight I wouldn't worry about it.

My roost for my big birds is 15 in and I still have some that roost on the ground. If you get them to high and they do roost, when they come off the roost it can hurt there feet. I think they call it bumblefoot.

Fred, best way in my mind would be to get a splash female and put with your blacks, all her offspring will be blue. You can use the blacks out of the blue cross, Warren did that all the time and he had nice blacks.

We got up to 99 deg yesterday in western Oklahoma. Early for that hot. When we have heat like that this early we will be set for some bad storms.

I think if you was trying to make dressing fryers it would be better than a pure orp.
