Well, my mistake the chicks with the widest heads were not lavender but either pure whites or coronation(have to wait till they are about 4 weeks old to confirm what color they really are). I had all three kind of eggs in the same compartment incase a black split would hatch and didn't want to mix it with pure blacks or chicks from Julie's male. These chicks did not look like my normal whites but were very very light grey/silvery whitish or very pure white.

I am a bit of a novice using an incubator, and it is a second hand one at that. I threw out the first eight eggs after candling because they didn't look promising. The second set of eight produced two chicks! One is blue and the other appears silvery, so I guess it is a splash. These were promised to someone who gave me a couple of nestboxes. I didn't candle the second batch fearing my old eyes might not be picking up clues to a growing embryo!
In the meantime, out in the coop, a young hen hatched one chick. She is doting on it! My flock is composed of five birds (plus the chick), all nine to ten months old. Four are blue and one is black (the happy mother hen). Now that I know I have a broody hen, the incubator may get retired.

Maybe I have a White Orp OR like what Harry said I may be mixing him up for a very lite Buff. I did have a couple of my Buff eggs hatch along with my 8 month old Black cockerel's chicks. I am using my 8 month ole who is son of the BO/Blk cock I used some last year. That cock is 1/2 BO from my original Doug Akers Buff hens. I really am hoping to get Doug line's size and type into my White via threw this Black cockerel. Jury is still out how well he will finish out. He is 8 months old but is now officially a daddy since 6 of the eggs I collected from his pen hatched in this batch. I suspect one of these is the mother of this chick below. I am hoping it is from my White pullet This chick still could be a Buff Sport that got mislabeled, like Buff Sports down below who a 9 days old now. This pic below was taken the day I picked them up and day 2 from their hatch. Something to compare with. I really am hoping for another one or two like this chick to know for sure. Hope you all are having great hatches. It is nice to finally have a reason to post again.

Bill. I have hatched a few big buffs over the years and I never had a white pop out. It will be interesting to see this guy every 2 weeks. The buff in his wings would tell me he might turn buff, but what do I know. Is his legs white?

Don, what you see is what I see. I have these Fuesting Buff Sports that have me guessing anything is possible. Here is the older of the 4 Buff Sports. He sorta has the same Buff tint to him.

Joy it is hiding under the black chick like it is a mama hen. They are so cute. The blacks are out of Champion English Girl Taylor and CHamp my black Cockerel who will be a yr old in mid June. He is handsome fellow and I think these should be really good chickens.
