These birds all look great!
I do have a question though. I understand that for the chocolates to be recognized they have to be bred by so many breeders and be shown for so many years, but I was wondering if the person showing is required to be a member of the APA or ABA in order to "qualify" as one of the exhibitors participating in the effort?

I don't think you have to be in the ABA or APA to help get a color in the std. Jon might know.

I wasnt sure so I asked Walt Leonard of the APA Standard Committee he said that the people on the affidavit have to be members the whole 5 years.

As I understand it you need 5 people on that affidavit. Any idea if there are five APA members in the chocolate project? I don't suppose if I paid for a membership I'd be much help if the chocolates will be recognized before my "5 years" is up.

I think I know of five people, though two of them were talking about getting out of them I believe. Not all five have to show birds at the qualifying meet, they just have to send in affidavits saying they have had them

Hi everyone! Thanks to Don, my son got his first chickens, a trio of bantam chocolate orpingtons! My son is young but he is really enjoying them! So far we have also had a very successful hatch! We have hatched close to 20 orpington chicks, and many of them look very promising! I just wanted to post a couple pictures from today to show how much fun my son was having with them! Thanks again Don for the trio! They are doing good and we are hatching a good amount. It is too early to tell if they will develop into great color or not, but some of them look like they have a lot of potential! The one in the picture has a good head and his color is richer than it looks in the picture. Will keep everyone updated as they grow!

I'm breeding a black split over my choc females this year. I should have some black splits males this year. If your buddy comes back to Shawnee next year I'll send you one.

I finally have a group of my chocolate bantams at my new house! Building chicken pens as fast I can, but won't get much done until school is out later this week. I wanted to get a picture of them, but they got super dusty and it's hard to see their true chocolate color. So far I have around 30 of them, and once they get a little bigger and better formed I am going to start sorting them. How is everyone else's chocolates doing?
